The papers consist of biographical materials, writings, diaries, correspondence, photographs, organizational records and subject files. Included are her typescript memoirs entitled "The Embattled Ladies of Little Rock" (published in 1999); organizational material from the Women's Emergency Committee to Open Our Schools such as minutes, correspondence, speeches, reports, and publicity; plus research material related to segregation in Arkansas and other southern states. The papers shed some light on Vivion Brewer's personal and professional life, as well as offering insight into larger questions about the motives and experiences of white Southerners who opposed racism and segregation.

Vivion Lenon Brewer was born in Little Rock, Arkansas; graduated from Smith College in 1921; and received a law degree from Arkansas Law School in 1928.
